Founded in 1958 by my father, Abílio Afonso, Metalofarense was born from an entrepreneurial vision, based on trust and hard work. Over more than six decades, our company has evolved into a benchmark building materials store in the Algarve, always upholding our commitment to quality, trust and proximity to our customers and partners.
Today, we are living in a time of transformation. We continue to honour the solidity and experience that have brought us to this point, but we also have our eyes set on the future. We are part of the NCS Group, the latest and most innovative cutting and forming service centre created in Portugal.
NCS Steel Service Center is a new entity dedicated to providing advanced steel services. Our passion for the construction business began in 1958. For more than 60 years now, we have been providing all kinds of solutions and construction materials suitable for every phase of your project. We are a family business, based in Faro, the Algarve’s capital city, and thanks to our excellent services and materials we have become a benchmark in the sector in Portugal.

Abílio Afonso (1915-1977) founded Metalofarense after many years of working in the steel trade.
1958
Metalofarense was founded on 4 February 1958.
1972
Construction of the Metalofarense building where the current head office is located.
1974
Luís Afonso takes on the job of manager (to present).
1982
Inauguration of the warehouse in Vale da Venda.
2001
Change from private limited company to public limited company with the entire share capital being bought by the Afonso family.

50th Anniversary

2020
Constitution of the Unimat Group on 2 October 2020.
